Binoculars Case

My first try at a bag sort of thing. Kinda cool! Hooded merganzers are my favorite duck.
I'm a nerdy birdwatcher you see. For this one I used a milled hide, which is a softer flexible leather compared to what I make masks with.

Some masks I've done over the years

Wing Head Hat

Everybody does a Valkyrie crown eventually, so here's mine. I riveted the wings too close to the centre. Always learning am I.

Dark Mask

Leather mask made for a 2014 festival rave party thing called Motion Notion, located in the stunning Beaverfoot valley near Golden, BC.  I think it's made with 5 oz leather, which is too thin. It doesn't keep its shape as well as I would like. It's rather floppy.
Less than two years after making it, the purple stain is fading. The blue looked strange from the beginning. I'm not impressed with Eco Flo! --2018 Updated paint job!

It almost had horns.
Here's a nice little film about Motion Notion 2015, check out the scenery. I live here!

Skeletor and his Amazing Friends

To be inked!

Done!

Overbearing Love

More inky practice. Speedball ink and Windsor Newton brush.

Inking Broncodile

FINALLY after decades of searching I have found a proper inking brush. I have much to catch up on. Why is my life so busy? These aren't my best drawings but I thought I oughta post something already.

Here's a space man riding a bucking bronkodile. Why not?

Desert Leather Face

Back from the Playa. My newest leather freakery. 1930s Wilson welding goggles are the best sunglasses I could have hoped for out there. My dust mask worked very well! Behind me is the Temple of Whollyness, a place that got under my skin. And too much sun got on my skin that day, whoooeeee!
If I remember right my evil friend's name is Miss Stitches. That's a fine outfit she made!
I made lots of other stupid costumes but there aren't any photos. Darn!

I made this dust mask to be functional for the Blackrock desert conditions. The white filter doesn't look great, but it worked well during dust storms. I could breathe well given the big holes. It's a prototype design, I hope to make better ones eventually.

This wrist guard features orange lillies and an antique jade bracelet.

Desk Side Doodles

There are still one or two pencils kicking around the cartoon studio. Such dark times we live in. I drew this goofy thing when I was supposed to be workin'.

I like bones.

Creepy Lady

This is my interpretaion of the creepy villan lady for Ian Bartolo's upcoming comic Brothers. Cool shit!

Robert Bateman copy

This is the first piece I did with the tablet PC I bought recently. I was in Ontairio at the time and saw some cardinals in my parents yard. I didn't finish the bushy background. Lazy me.
I've decided to stop being a snob and give ol' Robert Bateman a chance.

Drunk Shark still life

A still life for the TAD course from early 2011. An inspired arrangement to be sure. Booze n rubber sharks with potato and broad beans. An obvious relationship. The dark on was done by murky fish tank light. Duh.

Frank felt it needed rearranging...

Woodstove

My ol' woodstove. I miss my little cabin in Golden BC. It was a nice place to hang out after a day of skiing at Kicking Horse. We won't talk about the trucks driving by or the rail yard lights. --(Update 2015--I moved back to Golden and now I own this cabin! However this wood stove went to wood stove heaven).
This studenty-looking work was an assignment for an on-line painting class from The Art Department. Corel Painter X.

Sargent Copy

So like, I never posted much from that painting class I took in 2011 at TAD. I had to drop out near the end because I moved across BC to work on the Pony show. I blew up my life for the millionth time. Too bad, it was a pretty great course. It was online but live and taught by Jason Manly and Jon Foster.

This first assignment was to copy this John Singer Sargent painting. It's harder than you'd think!!  It was the first time I used Corel Painter too. It's a neat program, but clunky and glitchy. Tough to make digital look like real paint.
I have so many versions of this I have no idea if this was the final one or not. I can see so much wrong with it now too.

Rarity's Horrible Cat

This is Opalescence  from My Little Pony. She's a horrible sourpuss, and probably my favorite character on the show. I found this screenshot on line, it's a scene I posed out. I was a layout artist on season one and two at Studio B, now DHX. It's kinda like key animation, but you can call me a poser...which I sometimes feel like, given the sort of stuff I actually like to draw.

Mr.Hootsey

This is Mr.Hootsey, my two foot tall stupid looking vintage ceramic lamp. There's more work to be done on this painting, but right now I can't be arsed.
I bought an Asus eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee slate tablet pc. It's a fancy toy that's making it fun for me to do paintings from life. I do feel guilty that I rarely uses real paint, and fear that I'll be spoiled by the forgiving crutch that is computer painting. But there's no set up or mess involved, which works for a transient wanderer like me.

Plate with Spoonies

This here is an unfinished digital painting of a very exciting subject. A plate!

Sadness can win

Truly my finest work ever. Oh well, at least something happened.

Anyway, consider this a warning to the perpetually unhappy.

Farty Ahrts

I squeezed one out! Like a stuck turd I squeezed out a little piece of artwork. And it stinks!

HHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHA

It's a start after a long dry spell. Really long.

It's time for bed. I'll be pissed tomorrow at work when I get chained to my computer and I'm all grumpy.

The exciting thing is that I bought a fancy new bike today. Yeehaw.

She Ram!

My latest costume with leather mask for the annual party put on by the KHMR ski patrol. It's unfortunate name is Hung Like a Horse. But what can you expect from a bunch of smelly patrollers? Reguardless it's lots of fun and for some reason Golden loooooooooves it's costume parties! This year Five Alarm Funk performed and they were excellent. Skeleton corset and moccasins available for sale on Etsy. Five Alarm Funk's site.

Stubby F#!*ker

I'm currently enrolled in a very cool online painting class through TAD (The Art Department), taught by Jason Manley and Jon Foster. Highly recommended. This is my wood stove, his name is Stubby Fucker. He can heat my pad to 40 degrees, ooooowhheee!
I've never painted from real life before, it's not easy!

Hoochie Warrior Babe

Don't ask me what the hell was in my head when i drew this. My inner feminist is crushing my throat with her combat boots, don't worry.
Not only do her boobs defy gravity, but her hair as well.

Superb Fairy Wren

8"x 8" on that lovely Arches cotton paper. I must get better at taking photos of my stuff!
