Mr.Hootsey

This is Mr.Hootsey, my two foot tall stupid looking vintage ceramic lamp. There's more work to be done on this painting, but right now I can't be arsed.
I bought an Asus eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee slate tablet pc. It's a fancy toy that's making it fun for me to do paintings from life. I do feel guilty that I rarely uses real paint, and fear that I'll be spoiled by the forgiving crutch that is computer painting. But there's no set up or mess involved, which works for a transient wanderer like me.

My latest costume with leather mask for the annual party put on by the KHMR ski patrol. It's unfortunate name is Hung Like a Horse. But what can you expect from a bunch of smelly patrollers? Reguardless it's lots of fun and for some reason Golden loooooooooves it's costume parties! This year Five Alarm Funk performed and they were excellent. Stubby F#!*ker

I'm currently enrolled in a very cool online painting class through TAD (The Art Department), taught by Jason Manley and Jon Foster. Highly recommended. This is my wood stove, his name is Stubby Fucker. He can heat my pad to 40 degrees, ooooowhheee!
I've never painted from real life before, it's not easy!

This is my costume for Shambhala. A crazy and amazing experience that was. This is my third leather mask, which acted as a catalyst for many amazing events. Masks draw people in, and bring out different aspects of my own tangled insides.

Silly me didn't have anyone take photos at the festival which would have looked much better. A forest backdrop is more appropriate than my bleak apartment! I had to ham it up all my myself to get these pictures. What a dork I am.

Happy Roses in the Big Smoke! Tra la la!

People on Deviant Art seem to like my first minotaur but I've never been totally happy with it. I didn't look at any cow reference when I drew it. I don't like THIS one all that much either! But it's the only drawing I've done for a while now. I just moved back to the big city, Vangroovy BC to prevent my almost dead "career" from atrophying. It's going to be a good summer I hope. I certainly won't kick through any plate glass windows no siree!

I haven't unpacked my scanner yet so this is a lousy photo. Seemed like a good thing to do at 4 in the morning! Just got home from the Capilano...University grad show party thang. Good times!

Burning Man 2009!

I finally went to Burning Man! I never really thought I would go. It was SOOOO interesting and SOOOO wonderful. I really hope I can go again. I love making costumes; this has changed my entire approach to it. This beats Halloween by far!

These pictures are of Tammy and me wearing some of the masks we've made. They are all leather except the rainbow monster which is plaster bandage and fun fur. Too hot for the desert!

I drew the bug creature while listening to H.P. Lovecraft audio books. What a weird dude. I like that those stories are older than pop culture and aren't influenced by it. There seems to be a "language" to character design these days, mostly copying what came before. I'm no different.

I discovered Imaginism Studios yesterday. Holee! What an inspiring bunch of people. Another great place that is helping me find new direction is Conceptart.org. I really dig the internet I must say.
I want to grow artistically, but I need to choose a path already. But first I REALLY need to make some cash. Cripes. Life is cruel.
